About Signal Peak Global Markets, LLC
Signal Peak Global Markets, LLC (formerly Global Coal Sales Group), a subsidiary of Global Mining Holding Company, LLC, is responsible for marketing, selling and logistics for the bituminous, thermal coal produced by its affiliate, Signal Peak Energy, LLC, located in Montana, USA.
Nearly 100% of Signal Peak’s current production is being exported via Westshore Terminals in British Columbia to end-users throughout Asia and South America for the production of electricity.
As the exclusive sales, marketing & logistics partner for Signal Peak Energy, Signal Peak Global Markets has created a diverse customer base for our coal and is currently a stable, reliable energy source to markets in Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Hong Kong, Chile and the United States, while we are actively exploring other international destinations.
Signal Peak Global Markets has long-term, guaranteed terminal capacity at Westshore Terminals Limited. As Canada’s No. 1 coal export facility, Westshore’s current capacity is ~30 million tonnes of coal per year, handling both metallurgical and thermal coals, making it the busiest coal export terminal in North America.
Signal Peak Global Markets has also contractually secured long-term rail transportation capacity on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad from Signal Peak Mine to Westshore Terminals. Today's BNSF Railway is the product of some 390 different railroad lines that merged or were acquired during the past 160 years. BNSF became part of the Berkshire Hathaway family in 2010 and is the second-largest rail carrier serving Westshore Terminals. BNSF serves the western two‐thirds of the United States as well as portions of Canada and key Mexican gateways with some 32,500 route miles (52,400 kilometers).
Our coal moves from the Signal Peak Mine across a 36 mile (58 kilometer) private rail line, owned by Global Rail Group, LLC, its affiliate. This Rail spur interconnects with the BNSF main-line in Broadview, Montana. From there, the coal is transported approximately 1300 miles (~2100 kilometers) on a single‐line haul west to Westshore Terminal.
